01:What is Sonomic?

Sonomic is the leading provider of audio asset management and distribution technology. The TLS is our flagship product. To learn more about us, click here.

02:What's the Total Library Server and how does it work?

The Sonomic Total Library Server (TLS) is the ultimate audio asset management system. With the TLS, your existing sound FX, sample and music collection is digitized and databased. Custom, cross-platform (Mac OS 9/X, Win 2000/XP) software lets you instantly find, audition and spot any sound to Pro Tools or drag and drop to any other sampler or sequencer. If the TLS doesn't have what you need, it will automatically download and database new sounds from the Sonomic Online Library, featuring Sound Ideas, BBC and more. Cue sheets, taglists, usage reporting, offsite accessibility and a host of other powerful features let you focus on creating instead of searching.

The main functions of the TLS include:

1. Search: A hierarchical category search and a precision "keyword in:" search to pinpoint the sounds you need.
2. Preview: Instantly audition all of your search results with waveform overview.
3. Spot/Import: Sounds from both your local server and the Online Library can be automatically spotted and imported in any file format directly to your workstation or application bin.
4. Manage: Each user has an unlimited number of personal taglists, where sounds can be hierarchically organized by project, client, or any other parameter. Taglists can be shared with other users, with custom permissions (for example, you can let another engineer see one of your taglists but not edit it, etc).
5. Add: Automatically add new sounds to your TLS by downloading from the Sonomic Online Library. You can also quickly rip and database your CD libraries or your own digital content.

03:Can I import the sounds I want into my editing software directly from my search results?

Yes. For Pro Tools, the TLS client software enables you to spot sounds directly to track or into the regions list. For virtually all other software, you can simply drag and drop sounds directly to the timeline.

04:What file format do does the TLS support?

The TLS supports all common audio formats, including WAV, BWAVE, AIFF, SDII, . MP3, and MP4/AAC. It can also support most soft sampler formats, such as EXS and NKI.

05:How do I add new sounds to the TLS?

You can add new sounds to your TLS by downloading sounds from the Sonomic Online Library or by uploading your own sounds using the TLS client software.

In the event you can't find the sound you need on your Total Library Sever, you'll be able to instantly add new sounds by downloading from Sonomic's massive Online Library. The Online Library currently houses of over 250,000 sounds from top providers such as Sound Ideas, BBC, Zero G, Valentino and many more click here for a complete list. All sounds downloaded from the Online Library are stored automatically databased to your TLS for future use.

The TLS enables you to add your own custom sound effects, samples, music or any other type of audio file to your Server database. It will also rip and automatically database most CD libraries.

06:What administrative and reporting functions does the TLS offer?

Extensive administrative functions allow unlimited permission levels. For example, a certain user or group of users may have full access to some libraries, limited access to other libraries (search and preview but not download or import, for example), and no access to still other libraries (they won't even show up in the search results). Permissions can be easily set and modified.

Detailed reporting capabilities mean you can see exactly who's doing what on the TLS. For example, you can find how many sounds a given engineer downloaded during a certain session for billing purposes. Reports can include searches, previews, downloads, and taglists by user, group of users, and/or date range.

07:Can I edit the search attributes of sounds on the TLS?

Yes. Provided you have the necessary permissions, editing attributes (i.e. metadata) is as easy as double clicking in the relevant field of your search results.

08:What type of production facilities can benefit from the TLS?

Any facility working with sound libraries needs to streamline their audio production process to work more efficiently, produce better results, save money and remain competitive. The TLS is perfect for all types of professional facilities including Audio Post, Film, Television, Commercial, Radio broadcast, video game development, New Media, Educational Institutions and Advertising Agencies. Endorsing clients include major broadcast companies like CBS television, educational institutions such as Ball State University, videogame developers like Acclaim, and independent post houses such as Hothead. 09:How does the TLS compare to competitive sound library management products?

There are three major features that distinguish the TLS from competitive products:

1. Search Capabilities: The heart of the TLS is the Sonomic Sound EngineTM, the most powerful media search algorithm available. Engineered from the ground up specifically for the professional production environment, the Sound Engine goes far beyond the limited keyword-only searches offered by competitors. A sophisticated yet intuitive hierarchical category search and a precision "keyword in:" search can be used independently or in combination to deliver pinpoint-accurate results instantly, every time.

2. Library Updating: If you need sounds that are not in your current library, competitive solutions make you buy new hard drives and/or rip the CD's yourself. Beyond being both costly and time consuming, there is no way to access new sounds right when you need them most, during a session with deadlines looming. The TLS solves this limitation by automatically connecting to the Sonomic Online Library. This enables instant around-the-clock access to an additional selection of over 250,000 sounds (and constantly growing). The Sonomic Online Library is the largest online sound library featuring the continually updated catalogs of top producers such as Sound Ideas, BBC, Frank Serafine, Valentino, Clack Sound, Zero G, and many more. Unlike other solutions, the TLS ensures you always have the sound you need right when you need it.

3. Application Compatibility: The TLS is 100% cross platform. Features The software is are identical on Mac (OS 9/X) and, Windows, even Linux. (2000/XP). Full software integration features enable you to bring sounds in any format right into the application track or bin. The TLS is compatible with Pro Tools® , Avid Film Composer, Media Composer®, Xpress®, Avid DS, Sound DesignerTM, Final Cut Pro, Digital Performer, Logic Audio, Nuendo, and virtually all other audio and video software applications.

11:Can I have a demo of the TLS?

Of course. Click here for info on setting up a remote or on site demo.

12:How much does the TLS cost?

The price of your TLS is primarily dependent on the number of users. Click here to learn more.

13:How will the TLS save me money?

The Total Library pays for itself in three ways:

1. Faster project turnaround time: With the TLS, searches that used to take hours can be done in literally seconds. This means you can take on more projects - and generate more billings - without investing in more equipment, space or staff.

2. No more CD purchases: Since you automatically update your local sound collection by downloading sounds from the Sonomic Online Library, you don't have to continually buy new CD libraries.

3. Client retention: in an increasingly competitive production environment, repeat business from satisfied clients is critical. Fumbling through stacks of CDs in front of a client just isn't professional. The Sonomic TLS shows your commitment to maintaining a state-of-the-art facility by offering the best production tools available.

14:Are there ongoing fees beyond the initial purchase price?

All ongoing services are completely optional. Ongoing services include renewing your Online Library Accounts, technical support and software upgrades after the first year.

15:If I choose not to renew my Online Library Accounts after the first year, do I still have the right to use the sounds I've downloaded? Will I still get access to these sounds?

Yes, should you choose not to renew your Online Library accounts, you still have perpetual, royalty-free rights to use the sounds you've downloaded. Every time you download sounds from the Online Library, they are automatically databased to your TLS so you'll always have access to them.

16:Can I upgrade from my current sound database to the TLS?

Yes. In fact, we extend significant discounts for upgrading and overhauling your old systems. Contact us for our latest upgrade policies and prices.

17:What if I want the TLS to manage other digital media assets besides sound fx, samples and production music?

Sonomic technologies can be customized to handle any type of digital media asset, whether it is audio archives, stock footage, wire-frame animations, stock images or anything else. For a quote on customized media management solutions, please call us toll-free at 877-SONOMIC (877-766-6642; international dial +1 212.604.0272) or email tls@sonomic.com.

18:Can I use a web browser to access the TLS?

Yes, you can also use a web browser to access your TLS instead of the TLS client software. A web browser is inherently inferior to the TLS client software; for example, no web browser can support keyboard shortcuts, drag and drop application import, file format conversion or many other key TLS features. However, for light usage - or if you need to access your server in a pinch from a computer that doesn't have the TLS software installed - using a web browser is a great option.

19:What is the set-up like?

The TLS is a turnkey solution, so installation is included with every sale. A Sonomic technical representative will come to your facility, install and optimize the system, and train you on its operation.

20:Do I need to buy server hardware from Sonomic?

No. Though many clients prefer to have us supply the actual server hardware as well as the necessary software, some choose to buy their own server hardware (or to use hardware they already have). You can use any relatively robust Mac or Windows workstation for a server. For small installations, you may not even need dedicated server hardware; you may be able to simply use your DAW as a server.

21:What is your technical support like?

TLS clients have true 24-7 customer support via a dedicated phone line and email. In the event that your TLS needs technical assistance or maintenance, Sonomic's engineers can perform quick remote fixes and upgrades.

22:How can I contact Sonomic about the TLS? Where are you located?
